Virginia Yee (née Yu) is the founder and creative director of Designs by Yu. Virginia has always enjoyed designing and doing all things crafty but never considered pursuing an art career. So she focused on another passion of hers, helping people. She graduated from California State University of Los Angeles and received a BA in Social Work. However, not long after her graduation, she found herself craving to do something more creative. That summer she enrolled herself at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and after two very intense but enjoyable years in the Interior Design Professional Designation Program, she graduated Summa Cum Laude. Virginia has worked with some of the most talented designers in the Interior Design industry and has developed skills that have proven to be invaluable in her career.
Though Virginia enjoyed her new creative career, her love for design and desire to help people motivated her to dream bigger. She set her heart on marrying her two passions and so began Designs by Yu. Virginia, a self-taught graphic designer, launched a stationery boutique featuring her designs with a portion of the proceeds going towards helping people in need. Being able to touch someone's heart and bring a smile to their face are some of the the best gifts she cherishes most, whether it's designing the perfect wedding invitation set for a client or running a marathon & raising money for cancer patients and their families.
Virginia credits her adoration for art & design to her father. Her father started his own graphic design firm in 1969 but closed his doors 15 years later to move his family from Hong Kong to the U.S. to give his three daughters a life with more opportunities. Virginia has always looked up to her father and is delighted to be following in his very footsteps. When Virginia's not working hard in the studio, she enjoys spending time with her supportive husband, Kenny, family and friends, designing interiors, reading, attending Broadway shows and snowboarding.
